Remember 2010 – Remember the Rain

The remarkable thing about the 2010 weather in San Pancho/San Francisco, Nayarit, Mexico, is our September rainfall. Rain that month accounted for half of the total annual precipitation in the pueblo. Annual rainfall for 2010 is by far the greatest since the weather station went on line in 2007. And the most in the collective pueblo memory as well.

These rainfall records will probably stand for a long time. Certainly for the new decade we are now beginning.

2007    28
2008   44
2009   39
2010   56

Our rainfall since September this year: less than a half an inch. Next likely significant rain in San Pancho: not until late May or June. In 2010 however, we had more than three inches in February. A harbinger of things to come.

The high temperature for 2010 was 92.7 °F on October 5 at 2:35 PM.

The low for the year was 52.2 °F on January 16 at 6:51 AM.

For perspective, the highest recorded temperature in the past four years in San Pancho was 93.2 °F on August 26, 2009 and the lowest recorded temperature was 50.0 °F on October 30, 2009.

Average temperatures for our four-year records show not much significant change. These readings are just all of the daily temperatures averaged out over the full year:

Average Temperature 2007/2010 – San Pancho

2007   69
2008   74
2009   72
2010   68

Yep, a little cooler than the past two years, but not significantly. And not a measure of global warming (or not!) in San Pancho.

How did our December temperatures compare with previous years? My impression was that it’s been cooler than previous Decembers. Friends have confirmed that feeling. But, looking at the records, the temperatures haven’t varied much from previous years. December 2007 is the coldest I have from the Weather Station history:

If you’d like to ingest more statistics from the year, I have a ton of them. Check out the “San Pancho Stats” link at the San Pancho Weather Station. For more on the rains, check our September blogs to refresh your memory!

The bridge into town is nearing completion, the traffic-clogging planters are painted and are looking great. It’s good to see more folks than last year coming to enjoy this delightful pueblo.

In the New Year I plan to bring a new version of the Weather Station website online for those of you with iPhones. Something easier to read and manage on your iPhone or iPad. And the look of our home page will probably be streamlined, too. If there’s something you’d like to see more/less of, please let me know.

Thanks for your comments and support during the year. I hope you find the weather information helpful and useful.

For me, it’s fun to be known in San Pancho as: 1) the weather guy, or 2) the guy with the handsome, golden dog – Oro. Although I may have the order of greatest reward reversed there.

Happy 2011!
