The New Bridge is Open

If you were in San Pancho last September, you just might recall the event. It was the heaviest rainy season in decades. And we were up to our britches in water. My best friend Cele wrote about it in her Blog, Tercera Edad in San Pancho:

“San Pancho is an island. No way in, no way out.

Saturday night (that’s September 4), just before midnight, the only bridge into and out of San Pancho disappeared into the river. Parts of the bridge crumbled the night before during heavy rain. By Sunday morning … it was gone.
Just a raging river left behind. I’ve heard that term “raging river” many times. But this is the first time I’ve seen a truly raging river. Fast, muddy, at the top of the river banks. Full of debris and trees that had washed downstream.”

That was then. Six months later – almost to the day – the new span is open!

Who would have thought that a) we’d ever be stranded in San Pancho and b) the new and impressive bridge would be completed so quickly. Sure, the sidewalk needs to be completed, lights and railings are due, but essentially the sturdy structure is ready for all traffic, large, small, heavy and light. Bring on those concrete trucks!

Hats off to the appropriate officials, local and state, for a job well done! Thanks.
