October Weather “Normal” in San Pancho

The high temperature for October in San Pancho/San Francisco, Nayarit, was 91.6 F (33 C). That’s within one degree of October highs here since 2008.

The average temperature (24 hrs.) for October was 73 F (23 C). That’s within one degree (plus or minus) of October temperatures since 2008.

The high Heat Index in San Pancho for October was 110.5 F (43 C), two degrees higher than last year, but 2 degrees less than 2011.

So why do we feel that we’ve been in a sauna for most of the month? It was likely the unrelenting heat and those seemingly endless consecutive days with the Heat Index in the 110-plus range. The high Heat Index for the year remains at 117 F (47 C), recorded on September 13. And that’s the highest on record at the San Pancho Weather Station since its inception in mid-2008.

To get an idea of how unforgiving those consecutive days of hot, humid weather were, take a look at the graph at the top of the Weather Station home page in the next day or two, while the current two-week period is still displayed.

The best news I can offer about our mini-San-Pancho-Warming spell is that November will offer high Heat Index readings in the mid-90s and December will be in the upper 80s. Something to look forward to!

Some light rain showers the final two days of the month also gave a sense of relief from our oppressive heat. October clocked in with 2 inches of rain in total bringing the annual rainfall total to 39 inches, well within the range of a “normal” rainy season. (“Yes”…you folks living on the beach often get more rain than the mid-pueblo weather station, but it is what it is. If someone has an accurate rain gauge with which to measure rain at the beach, I’d be happy to report those readings.)

Thanks again for the feedback on the San Pancho Weather Station. As you know, it’s a hobby for yours truly. I am not a meteorologist nor a forecaster, but past performance with the weather (unlike the stock market) is a pretty good indicator of what is to come. It’s nice to have daylight again earlier in the morning, with sunrise now around 6:30 a.m. That also means Happy Hour at the beach ends a bit earlier. That’s probably a good thing too.
