An Ordinary January

The average daily temperature in San Pancho for January was 71.9 degrees (22 C). That’s within a degree of Januarys on record, except for 2011 when the average was 65.3 (18.5).

It was cooler (and damper) the beginning of the month, but things warmed up toward the end as we reached a high of 84.3 (29) under sunny skies on the 23rd.

The coldest morning of the month was January 19 at 8 a.m. when the temperature dropped to 59.5 F (15). That is well within the average overnight low. The record low in San Pancho was 50.1 (10) in 2011.

The rainy, gloomy weather that closed out 2013 continued during the beginning of the month throughout the Riviera Nayarit. Total rainfall in San Francisco, Nayarit, was only  a trace (a quarter of an inch in town or .71 cm), compared to an inch (2.54 cm) of rain a year ago.

The prospects for February based on the San Pancho Weather Station database indicates we’ll have a high temperature like January’s, in the low to mid 80’s (28). The low will be in the upper 50’s (14).

Significant rainfall is not very likely. On the other hand, in 2010 and 2012 we had more than 3 inches (7.6 cm) in February. You might want to take on a wager with a friend on this statistic for 2014.

Thanks again for your comments on the weather station. It is always good to hear from you online and on the streets of this beautiful village on the Mexican Pacific coast.
