About December Rain in San Pancho

An inch of rain has fallen on our Pacific Coast village in the past 24 hours. Unusual for December, but not for the record books.

The last month of the year usually brings only a trace of precipitation, with two noteable exceptions: 2009 and 2013. Those two Decembers we had 3 inches of rain! So we are far from setting any rain records for the twelfth month.

There is a record we’ve set for the year so far. It is the total rainfall: more than 46 inches. That is second only to the rain-soaked 2010 when we were just shy of 56 inches. Yes, the famous September floods year. We’re not likely to best that this year.

It’s worth noting that we are also experiencing the warmest December on record here in San Francisco, Nayarit. On average, several degrees warmer, even though those daytime highs in the mid-80s feel downright comfortable after our long, hot summer!
